Marilyn Manson

Marilyn Manson The Golden Age Of Grotesque (Nothing/Interscope) Rating: NN

Rating: NN

The whole Marilyn Manson boogieman act was already well past tiresome, and now it’s creeping into self-parody. The industrial thud behind The Golden Age Of Grotesque – a little dentist-drill whiz here, some synth slaps there – is heavy enough, but in a distortion-free way that’s way too clean to seem nasty or menacing. Likewise, there’s nothing all that lyrically offensive, just a few expletives you could hear in any schoolyard. Can Marilyn Manson just be getting soft in his advancing years.
