CanLit does pretty well sales-wise all over the world, but we don't necessarily expect our authors to be considered the sexiest people alive. Why not? says the CanLit Is Sexy website. Riffing off the titles and themes of their books - using only a few words and the writers' publicity pics and book jackets - the site playfully eroticizes Canuck authors both present and past.
There are lots of reasons to love about this site. First of all, it doesn't just stick with the obvious. I mean, we don't need this website to figure out that some of our best scribes are hot - Barbara Gowdy, for example, Miriam Toews, Patrick DeWitt, who had to fend off the female admirers after he won the Rogers Trust fiction prize for The Sisters Brothers. It was actually funny watching him cope with all the attention. All three get the canlitissexy treatment.
But so do Margaret Laurence, Farley Mowat and a ton of authors that aren't necessarily top of mind when you think about personal sexual charisma, per se. I love the comments below the Farley Mowat entry from fans who insist they always thought he brought the heat. Better still, when taking on writers who usually don't play the sex card, the site never gives off a whiff of mean-spiritedness. It's always just witty.
Best of all, new entries flow into the site often enough to merit frequent visits.
