Nadia McLaren, Caroline Mosby and Heidi Yip at Angell (890 Queen West) to April 27. 416-530-4555. Rating: NNN
Three OCAD painters hang at Angell: Nadia McLaren balances European and aboriginal traditions in a series of unaffected landscapes and symbolic abstracts; Caroline Mosby's series is about discussions that lead to arguments, featuring beautifully painted figures bathed in soft light who appear to be swimmers but aren't; and Heidi Yip makes poetic works in which small animals emerge in unlikely places and, according to her, make funny sounds like "wusha wucka wusha wucka."
Go West, in just its second outing, is the fresh-faced juried exhibition where fresh-faced students from the Ontario College of Art and Design invade commercial galleries for the weekend. There's a lot of great stuff to see, and the students are so damned nice. Here are some stand-outs.
