These mostly European conceptual works supposedly “express refusal and critique in art,” but unfortunately most are way too obscure for those of us not in graduate school.

Duncan Campbell’s film clips of 60s Northern Irish youth with a soundtrack of despondent philosophical musings must be saying something about the Troubles, while Nora Schultz’s quote of Sherri Levine’s reworking of Walker Evans’s Depression portrait has a few too many levels of references.

However, I enjoyed French collective Claire Fontaine’s brick wrapped in a Guy Debord book cover sitting on the floor like an abandoned juice box and their wicked 9/11 assemblage, two U.S. coins commemorating the Wright brothers’ flight attached to box-cutter blades.
