And an alternative valentine's Day wouldn't be complete without an invitation to Come Up To My Room. With the Interior Design Show on this weekend at the National Trade Centre, the 115-year-old Gladstone Hotel is independently bringing arty design and designy art to more than 12 of its rooms as site-specific installations. It's a great idea involving an impressive list of artists and designers. Scott Eunson 's sculptures create architectural spaces, while Christian Giroux and Daniel Young 's work is similarly structured but on a grander and more conceptual scale. Corwyn Lund 's sculptural piece resembles a seemingly never-ending series of elegant nesting tables, while Christy Thompson has created a very desirable object in her ping-pong light.
There's definitely a range of worthwhile work to see. And besides, nothing says romance quite like a room at the Gladstone.
