sometimes one of the greatest feats an artist can achieve is to render the mundane important – to endow the everyday with a bit of magic. For her box show, Tiff Izsa has unfolded many cardboard containers and used them to paper the gallery space at Katharine Mulherin ‘s 1080 location.
Walls, ceiling, floor and beams are all covered in a pale-brown soft cardboard coating white paper is pinned to the wall with pencils or scrunched and tossed to add flourishes here and there.
Even the face of the gallery and the tree out front are wrapped like presents.
It kinda feels like Christmas, and like Izsa’s the kid who never outgrew loving the box more than the gift.
