SUZANNE NACHA on view at Mercer Union (37 Lisgar) until March 24. 416-536-1519. Rating: NNN
suzanne nacha's mined sites reduces a massive industrial practice -- mining -- to a series of tiny wood panels painted with even tinier details of industrial landscapes. The scale is so skewed that the images read as abstracts, while the hues of Nacha's palette -- dingy pastel yellows, pinks, lavenders and blues -- are straight from the pages of current femme fashion magazines. All the rage for spring/summer 2001.
It's rare that a colour scheme can in and of itself make a statement, yet these choices, coming soon to major malls across North America, can hardly be coincidental. The macho world of mining gets seen in all its alienated glory, utterly alienated.DH *
