The diptych Weight depicts a shop’s grubby scale and fridge juxtaposed with a portrait of two men sitting in a spare living room, seemingly weighed down by life. In another crumbling shop corner near a rusty safe, a thick book, presumably The History Of The Persian Empire (the photo’s title), lies open on a table, leaving us wondering about the business and absent reader.
Sanaz Mazinani‘s astute, subtle images convey layers of meaning underlying daily life in the Islamic state.
