one artist who’s obviously still driven by the child within is Max Streicher. His giants occupy an entire room at 401 Richmond, expanding and contracting like a group of beating hearts. The figures work like enormous windsocks, with air pumped into them to give them shape. When the air flows, the figures rise. And when it briefly shuts off, they slowly fall. Resting on their backs, the giants look like so many turtles trying to flip over.
It’s an amazing piece, full of life and whimsy. Navigating through the maze of shifting arms and legs, you feel young and free.
