Yayoi Kusama retrospective coming to the AGO

Big news for Toronto art lovers, Instagrammers and everyone in between: yesterday, the AGO announced it was partnering with D.C.’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden to bring a Yayoi Kusama retrospective to Toronto in 2018.

In an age where the word “immersive” is thrown around a lot, the word doesn’t seem quite adequate enough to describe the effect of stepping into one of the 87-year-old artist’s infinity mirror installations, which you have likely seen on social media at some point. Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors will include at least three mirror rooms and more than 60 paintings, collage and works on paper.

The New York Times reports that the show will travel from Washington to Seattle’s Art Museum, where the artist lived for a brief period of time, the Cleveland Museum of Art and LA’s Broad Museum.
