Cory Doctorow, author and digital rights activist, has written his first graphic novel in collaboration with Jen Wang. In Real Life ($19.99, First Second) deals with gold farming, a complex political problem in the online gaming universe, highlighting economic disparities: financially disadvantaged players participate not for fun but for profit. Acutely aware of gaming’s hostility to women, Doctorow makes sure his action hero protagonist is a savvy high-school girl. And the drawings are compelling.
