MATTHEW KUDELKA El Almacen (1078 Queen West, 416-516-2898) to July 31.
Paris is not a new stomping ground for photographers, having been traversed by the likes of Brassai and Cartier-Bresson. So it says something that Matthew Kudelka finds his own unique moments in the City of Light. A writer as well as a photographer, Kudelka excels at finding compelling dramas in the midst of a busy street, and he knows how human curiosity and interaction can drive a photograph. His Parisians are forever glancing, staring, addressing or gesturing at one another in a seemingly endless round of mutual observation and interaction. His sense of framing doesn’t hurt: he positions his subjects in ways that bring out the story and ratchet up the visual tension.
