He may not offer the most radical analysis of Israel and its place in the Middle East, but David Berlin has never been anything but thoughtful on the subject. In The Moral Lives Of Israelis: Reinventing The Dream State ($32, Random House), he recounts his experiences over the past six years in Israel, cataloguing the contradictions, struggles and passions of its people. Berlin launches the book on September 9 at Ben McNally Books (366 Bay, 416-361-0032).
