In the Mad Pride festival, a week-long celebration of madness beginning Monday (July 8), activists and artists shed light on the experience of people with mental illness. A key event is the launch for Mad Matters ($49.95, Canadian Scholars’ Press), a book of essays on mental illness edited by Brenda Le François, Robert Menzies and Geoffrey Reaume. It’s rammed with pieces that challenge assumptions and connect mad activism with other liberation struggles. Meet the writers and enjoy a Mad Comedy Jam on Tuesday (July 9) in the Toronto Community Housing Main Floor Meeting Room. See Readings.
