Who: Richard Purdy
Where: MaRS Centre (101 College)
Why: Richard Purdy sets up part of his popular inundated installation, which has run for two summers at the National Gallery’s Shawinigan Space. The Quebec-based artist fills the MaRS atrium with timber and a few centimetres of water to recreate a “drave” (log run), an economic engine of early Canada, that you can safely splash through barefoot or in rain gear. Over a 30-year career, Purdy has created public installations and other works drawing on architectural and scientific history, anthropology of imaginary communities and Buddhist teachings.
