Pow! Bam! Pop…Up? The Toronto Reference Library is going to be sharing space with the Toronto Comic Arts Festival when they launch a new pop-up shop, just in time for the holidays.
The shop opening also marks the launch of Just the Tips, a new book by local comic artist Chip Zdarsky – also known as Steve Murray – the evening of December 3. The book is an illustrated question-and-answer collection, guiding readers to answers of some of the least-asked (and therefore most interesting) sex-ed queries ever.
Zdarsky inked the multiple-award winning Sex Criminals series, which was partially banned by Apple. It also ended up as Time’s best comic series or graphic novel of 2013.
In addition to Zdarsky, books and gifts by other Canadian and international comic artists will be on sale at the boutique-styled store. Proceeds go to the TCAF, which returns for its annual festival proper at the library in the spring. The first occurred in 2003 and it’s now one of the largest events of its kind, drawing fans and artists from around the world.
A tweet from the TCAF account says the pop-up shop will “enable us to bring the spirit of the fest to Toronto year round, and carry a huge array of merchandise thanks to ample elbow room.”
The shop itself opens December 3 at 6pm. The next day it moves to more regular hours of 9 am – 9 pm on weekdays, 9 am – 5 pm on Saturdays and 12 pm – 5 pm on Sundays.
