We Asked : Bathroom reading?

Rating: NNNNN

Read? In the bathroom? Call me old-fashioned, but in our house we masturbate in the bathroom and read in the living room.

Simon Ings, author of The Weight Of Numbers, appearing October 21 and 22.

A combination of George Eliot and the instructions on the Tampax box. One is a bit more complex than the other – but I’m not saying which.

Meg Wolitzer, author of The Position, appearing October 25 and 28.

The writing on the wall is pretty good, but only if it’s in a fat Jiffy marker. I can read that okay. Then again, not so long ago my wife asked me to stop using felt on the bathroom walls, so now I just hum or think while I’m in there.

Ryan Knighton, author of Cockeyed, appearing October 28.

This is an important question. (I do some of my best thinking in the tub.) I usually have a pile of books and articles for research close at hand. Current topics include urban myths, masters of fencing, maps of old New York, 19th-century surgical manuals and the history of erotic photography.

Ami McKay, author of The Birth House, appearing October 22 and 25.
