'Tis the season to get out of the cold and into the galleries, and the art scene this winter has tons to draw you in. The big mainstream show is the Emily Carr exhibit at the AGO (317 Dundas West, 416-979-6648), running March 3 to May 20, but a few others push a little harder against the boundaries.
Take sculptor Fiona Banner 's installation at the Power Plant (231 Queens Quay West, 416-973-4949), opening March 2. It combines a series of nudes and models of fighter planes to comment on aggression and vulnerability; or the Zoo show at InterAccess (9 Ossington, 416-599-7206), opening February 2, featuring robots manipulated by cockroaches, hermit crabs or crickets (no, that's not a typo), depending on the artist -- Garnet Hertz , Ingrid Bachmann and Amy Youngs . Does that sound mainstream to you?
