Neil Price

As part of Small Business Month’s Small Biz and Money Digital Residency, we’re profiling the speakers participating in our NOW Futures panel on digital literacy, which takes place October 17 at the Centre For Social Innovation.


Neil Price is a post-secondary education administrator, freelance writer and NOW Magazine contributor. He is currently Associate Dean in the School of Social and Community Services at Humber College. Prior to that, he was the co-founder and Executive Director of LogicalOutcomes, a consulting firm that focuses on improving human services work and social policy. 

His writing has also appeared in Toronto Star, Hazlitt and THIS Magazine. A CivicAction Fellow, Neil taught at George Brown College for 10 years.

Describe your side gig or hustle:

Journalism/consulting 

What inspired you to start your own business?

The need for flexibility and creativity in my work.

When it comes to money, payments or cash flow, what is the biggest challenge you face in your small business?

Administrative capacity to send invoices and follow-up with clients.

What is one strategy or piece of technology you use to overcome the above challenge? 

Developing faster, easier methods of payment for clients. 

Why do you think the “gig” economy is growing?

Employers want flexibility to hire the best people without the costs associated with permanent, long-term employment.

What piece of advice would you share with other entrepreneurs looking to start their own business?

Clarify what the market needs and manage the scope. Do fewer things better than the next person.
