Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

Rating: NNN

The most intriguing thing about San Francisco’s B.R.M.C. is not their handle — which they nicked from Marlon Brando’s gang in The Wild One — but how their anthemic Jesus and Mary Chain-derived drone rock was suddenly championed as the hip new thing by everyone from Noel Gallagher to the Dandy Warhols despite its overtly Christian content. If it sounds like the Call with distortion pedals, that’s probably because B.R.M.C. bassist Robert Turner’s dad is the Call’s Michael Been, who gets a “production help” credit. Will it hit with heathens? God only knows.
