6. Laugh till it hurts

Rating: NNNNN

There’s no better way to banish the winter blahs than by taking in a comedy show. Here’s the punchline: all our funniest people haven’t migrated to La-La Land. Lucky us.

Chris Rock won’t need help selling out his four shows (and counting) at Massey Hall. But if you’ve never seen him, you need to. He’s that good. Everybody loves Chris. March 13-14.

Gerry Dee’s audience base has increased exponentially, especially south of the border, thanks to Last Comic Standing. He doesn’t hit the downtown Yuk Yuk’s till early June, so be sure to check out his headlining sets at the Yuk’s clubs in Ajax (January 31-February 2), Mississauga (February 7-10) and the newest one in Vaughan (April 3-6). You won’t be sorry. This guy is going places. 416-967-6425.

Canada’s other LCS finalist, Debra DiGiovanni, joins forces with two other funny ladies (Kristeen von Hagen and Laurie Elliott) for Girls Night Out, which starts its cross-Canada tour on April 5 at the Panasonic. 416-870-8000.

Sketch fans can enjoy the new Second City revue, Tazed And Confused, which – judging by that wicked title – satirizes current headlines with lots of ballsy irreverence. Opens February 7 at the Second City. 416-343-0011.

Sketchersons Fraser Young (left) and Gary Rideout Jr. chill out in new home.

The Broken Social Scene of the sketch world, the Sketchersons, are moving their Sunday Night Live show from the Diesel Playhouse to new digs somewhere around Bloor and Ossington. Check out their website at www.thesketchersons.com for all the sketchy details.

Finally, his name is sweet, and so’s his act: Sugar Sammy, who got a big career boost when he opened for Dave Chappelle two years ago, brings his cross-country tour (and new CD, Down With The Brown) to the recently opened Absolute Comedy Club. February 13-16 and 20-23. 416-486-7700.
