Best of SummerWorks: Ride The Cyclone

RIDE THE CYCLONE by Jacob Richmond and Brooke Maxwell. Theatre Passe Muraille Mainspace. August 12 at 5:30 pm, August 14 and 15 at 3 pm Rating: NNNN

A mechanical fortune teller, the Amazing Karnak, brings a school choir from Uranium, Saskatchewan, back to life following their group death on a carnival ride to tell their stories and sing their songs in a final otherworldly concert.

The book (Jacob Richmond) and eclectic songs (Brooke Maxwell and Richmond) are riotously funny, always surprising and filled with five shows’ worth of solid ideas.

The energetic cast, directed by Britt Small and Richmond, is excellent, each given a star turn to show off his or her dreams and disappointments.

If your taste inclines toward the weird and wonderful, don’t miss it.
