Not every Fringe work is a totally new script. Sometimes contemporary playwrights reinvent or give a new spin to well-known works.
The Bible provides material for two pieces, Erotic Tales From The Old Testament, done as an outdoor burlesque show (from July 4 at St. George the Martyr Church, 197 John), and A King’s Heart, the story of King David, ruler and musician (from July 4 at Factory Mainspace).
Honest Aesop’s Fables uses commedia to retell some of Aesop’s most famous instructive tales (from July 4 at Palmerston Library). The Hatter looks at Alice In Wonderland’s Mad Hatter, reflecting on his life with song, story and tea an audience member gets to be the Jabberwock (from July 5 at Tarragon Extra Space). Innocent When You Dream plays with the characters in Don Quixote as the visionary knight blends his story with that of Moby Dick (from July 5 at Robert Gill).
One of the fest’s most anticipated shows is sure to be Elizabeth – Darcy: An Adaptation Of Pride And Prejudice, with a two-person female cast (from July 3 at Campbell House Museum, 160 Queen West).
