This tongue-in-cheek country-themed musical takes the form of a comeback concert for the a fictional estranged 90s roots duo.
With Maybelle on acoustic guitar and Mattie on electric bass, the pair icily banter before launching into chuckle-worthy innuendo-laced songs about woodpeckers, telltale pubic hairs and abstinence-only sex education. The twangy songs and bitter sisterly dynamic have potential – especially Mattie’s hilarious obsession with rightwing conspiracy culture – but the reunion plot needs thickening, and the static staging (the two just stand behind their mics) needs some livening up.
