Montreal’s Uncalled For, here repped by Matt Goldberg, Dan Jeanotte, Colin Munch,and Anders Yates, perform their whimsical (but hella sharp) sketches with all the sweaty verve of a Red Bull-fuelled boys’ night out.
As they wander through the loosey-goosey realm of the hypnagogic – the state between waking and sleeping – the life-preserver-clad foursome rock their silly sketches with total abandon.
Some of the bits are funnier than others (I loved an incredibly long chair-pushing sequence), but all are so cleverly conceived and performed that it’s hard not to be a little mind-blown by the creativity of the concept and the wit of the transitions.
Look out for the callbacks to previous jokes (the Eurythmics have a particularly dazzling place in the repertoire) to see just how clever these guys are. Sweet dreams are indeed made of these.
