Music is the winning element in Love Is A Poverty You Can Sell, a cabaret featuring the tunes of Kurt Weill and theatre composers he influenced.

The production is a stripped-down version of a 2010 Fringe hit, which had more tunes and a story missing here.

The 30-minute show would probably stand better on its own, without the emcee antics of Ryan Anning and Scott Dermody, which lack context and development.

Musical standouts include Sweeney Todd’s My Friends, with Alex Dault, aided by Dayna Chernoff, bringing a quiet intensity to the murderous barber the bittersweet September Song, with Dault and Natalie Kulesza Christian Jeffries’ poignant Streets Of Berlin and the company’s angry-snarl finale, What Keeps Mankind Alive.
