MAMMA MIA Playwright Ned Dickens has a way with myths. Remember his Oedipus, performed under the Gardiner Expressway, and Icara, premiered during the Fringe? Nightswimming presents a marathon reading of Dickens’s trilogy City Of Wine, which returns for a fuller look at the Oedipus legend. The central tale is framed by a play about Oedipus’ mother Jocasta and another about his uncle Creon, the latter featuring only the chorus of the two previous plays. Brian Quirt directs. STRANGE SISTERS Considering Me@sure 3.1, his deconstructed take on Shakespeare’s Measure For Measure, you wouldn’t expect anything ordinary from director Chad Dembski. His latest reinvention of a stage classic is a performance piece about the creation of Chekhov’s Three Sisters that draws on opera, Pina Bausch’s dance/theatre, Sergei Eisenstein’s films and the Brontë sisters’ lives and verse.
