Carnal Carmen

Everyone recognizes Bizet’s opera Carmen, but you probably haven’t seen the ballet. Italian choreographer Davide Bombana has reconceived the tragic love triangle tale, emphasizing the story’s carnality. For Luminato, the National Ballet of Canada is performing it along with National alum Dominique Dumais’s Skin Divers, inspired by Anne Michaels’s poetry. June 6 to 14 at the Four Seasons Centre. 416-345-9595.

Aye, Claudia

Claudia Moore’s been fascinated by the King Lear story for years. Now she’s created a work to precede Driftwood Theatre’s performance of the play, but it’s only getting two local performances – one on July 11 (at Todmorden Mills) and one on August 21 (at Withrow Park). When dancers like Heidi Strauss, Linnea Swan, Gerry Trentham and Moore herself are involved (Lear’s played by a puppet, manipulated by Jerry Silverberg), you won’t want to miss it. driftwoodtheatre.com.
