Fringe Review: Let Me Freeze Your Head

LET ME FREEZE YOUR HEAD by Neil McArthur. Helen Gardiner Phelan Playhouse. July 2 at noon, July 3 at 9:45 pm, July 5 at 4:15 pm, July 7 at 7:45 pm, July 8 at 4 pm, July 9 at 4 pm. Buy tickets. Rating: NNN

In this well-written monologue, philosophy professor Neil McArthur uses cryogenics, and particularly the practice of freezing heads, to discuss entropy, painful relationships, baseball great Ted Williams and growing up.

Acting as a representative of cryonic preservation firm Cryoncor, McArthur tells several tales of the bodies behind the frozen skulls, but the pacing could use some stronger direction. McArthur’s delivery feels bland at times, as the stories plod along. Some jokes miss the mark, which doesn’t mar the show irrevocably because the heart-warming ending makes up for any faults.
