>>> Fringe Review: Weird: The Witches of Macbeth

WEIRD: THE WITCHES OF MACBETH by Phillip Psutka. Randolph Theatre. July 4 at 4:15 pm, July 5 at 6:45 pm, July 6 at 1:45 pm, July 7 at 7:30 pm, July 9 at 6:15 pm. Buy tickets. Rating: NNNN

This dramatic acrobatic retelling of Macbeth from the perspective of the three witches impresses on multiple fronts.

In an approach similar to Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead, writer Phillip Psutka explores the politics, strategy and decision-making of the witches as they attempt to steer the tragic and murderous events.

At center stage is the most notable element, a large suspended piece of fabric that the three performers who play the witches (Lindsay Bellaire, Emily Hughes and Sheelagh Daly) continually ascend and descend while performing complex, visually stunning choreography consisting of flips, spins and slides.

The insightful script, strong performances, spectacular aerial stunts and moody thunderstorm soundtrack make it an enchanting feast for the senses, and one of the most memorable shows at the fest.
