Hot Camaro
Next time the all-female sketch trio Camaro drives in with a show, make sure you’re in the passenger seat. The recent Canadian Comedy Award nominees remounted their show On Her Majesty’s Secret Cervix over two weekends at the Tim Sims.
The troupe has an impressive range, taking on themes like body image, beauty pageants and exploited workers with sass and a lack of crudeness.
They’ve got a good grasp on the differences between kids and adults, as they show in the heartbreakingly funny sketches about the offspring ( Marissa Gregoris and Robin Bublick ) of two fucked up single parents and another where two grandkids visit their bickering Italian nonna (the ever-watchable Marissa Gregoris).
Candice Gregoris isn’t as varied or as comfortable an actor as the other two, but this is definitely a threesome you’ll want to join in the future.
Stirring the waters
Are you a writer of colour living in Canada? Factory Theatre seeks new pieces for its CrossCurrents fest of new plays “devoted to showcasing and developing works involving the intersection of different cultures.” Full-length submissions are preferred, though shorter plays are considered. Writers working in other art forms but who’d like to explore writing for the stage are also encouraged.
Participants receive a workshop and a public reading.
Send a completed script or excerpt, a letter outlining the play’s developmental history and a SASE for return of the material – no scripts by e-mail.
