Working on Death Of A Chief has inspired a hunger for Shakespeare among its native performers. A few have aspirations to tackle other plays by the Bard.
JANI LAUZON
You know her best for…
Her work with the Turtle Gals (she’s a co-founder) and her Juno-nominated solo albums Blue Voice/New Voice and Thirst. A two-time Dora nominee and long-time performer with Native Earth, Lauzon has also appeared on TV (Mr. Dress-up and Conspiracy Of Silence).
“I’ve had such great opportunities lately to play gender-switched roles in Shakespeare that I’d welcome the chance to play a woman.
“My choice would be Paulina, from The Winter’s Tale, because she has an incredible balance of humour and compassion. The actor playing her has to be able to switch easily between comedy and tragedy, sometimes combining both to make her argument.”
LORNE CARDINAL
You know him best for…
His Gemini Award-winning role of police officer Davis Quinton on Corner Gas and his work on Moccasin Flats, North Of 60 and Elijah. He’s also an established stage actor (Beaver, Jim And Shorty, The Hobbit) as well as a theatre and TV director.
“I’d really love to take on Richard III, or Iago in Othello. Richard is so all-encompassing in the way he presents himself, and Iago is excitingly treacherous.”
