The Patrick Conner Award

Patrick Conner was an extraordinary, warm-hearted man, equally concerned with the arts and environmental issues.

The award set up after his death in 2012, annually acknowledging a pair of like-minded individuals, “straddles and unifies two worlds that were essential to Patrick: theatre and sustainable living, including the sustainability of food production in our environment.”

This year’s recipients are Aviva Armour-Ostroff and Kimberly Edwards.

Armour-Ostroff is a Toronto actor, director, writer and producer, recently nominated for a Dora for her performance in ARC’s Moment she also founded and was artistic director of the Lab Cab Festival.

Edwards, who holds a masters in strategic leadership towards sustainability, co-founded Free Spirit Gardens, a charity that teaches students and residents how to grow their own food. In the winter, she works at a local ski club implementing sustainability-related projects.

Each winner receives a cash prize of $2,500, which will be presented August 10, 6:30 pm, at the Theatre Centre (1115 Queen West), appropriately on the building’s green roof. The hour-long ceremony, free and open to the public, will also include the unveiling of a new permament award installation.
