YOKO ONO: THE RIVERBED
Japanese conceptual artist Yoko Ono has been inviting spectators to create artwork since her “instruction pieces” in the 1960s asked gallery visitors to paint ceilings, scream against walls and breathe heavily. Originally staged in New York City three years ago, the two-room, three-part installation The Riverbed involves moving stones, arranging string and mending broken ceramics – simple, collaborative gestures designed to be both contemplative and political. Accompanying the show is a slate of Ono-inspired programming featuring music, lectures and performance art.
