Ekran Polish Film Association is a grassroots non-profit organization founded in Toronto by a group of individuals who are passionate about showcasing new media arts and films with both a Polish and multicultural focus. Ekran has been promoting Polish cinematography & culture since 2009. Ekran is supported by the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Toronto, the Polish Filmmakers Association, the Polish Film Institute, and City of Toronto. The films showcased by Ekran represent significant and recent contributions of Polish filmmakers to film culture, with the festival being a noteworthy event for both Polish-Canadian and GTA communities.

“The Art of Loving: The Story of Michalina Wislocka” (Sztuka Kochania) is an adaptation of Michalina Wisłocka’s biography. Cracking down on conservative stereotypes and pervasive ignorance, Wislocka revolutionized the sexual life of the country. And she did it all with a book. From 1940’s post war Poland to the 1970’s, the film follows the life of the famous Polish gynaecologist and sexologist, whose lifestyle guidebook “The Art of Loving” would go on to sell over 7 million copies.

Michael is a 28-year-old lawyer from Berlin. As of his behaviour and manner, he reminds of his boss and friend, the 36-year-old Franz. On Friday in the morning, Michael switches from top class German to Polish and becomes a Pole, Michałek. He meets Stanisław, his 55-year-old father from Poland. He sees him for the first time. Stanisław enters the world of his son more as a symbol of a Father than as a real father. He is the only bond uniting Michael with Poland – the country with which the young man intentionally lost touch. The men are basically alien to each other. The situation is awkward and strangely intimate. The men spend the weekend together, which leaves a strong emotional mark on Michael
