Our Davenport, A Rally for a Neighbourhood’s Future
Since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, Davenport has come together to tackle everything from food security to helping support parents, students and teachers as the new school year begins.
Our Davenport is a celebration of the work that’s being done and a call to action for Davenport residents to join in helping build a more just and caring society. Speakers will explore “what if” questions, like….
– what if everyone had a safe place to sleep?
– what if this land were given back to the Indigenous peoples who long called it home?
– what if schools prepared our children to be true citizens of the world?
We know that nobody is coming to save us, if we want to live in a better world, we’re going to have to build it ourselves.
Come join us on September 7 to envision the neighbourhoods of our collective imaginations. 5-7 pm.
Speakers and performers TBA.
Physical distancing will be enforced and masks are mandatory.

Dixonlicious LIVE Online Auction
For the past 5 years, Dixon Hall’s “Dixonlicious” fundraising event has been a cornerstone of support for vital food programs in Toronto’s downtown east and Regent Park. Last year, the event raised over $100,000, helping to provide 30,000 meals to those in need through critical programs like Meals on Wheels for isolated seniors.
This year, as the COVID-19 pandemic brings unprecedented challenges to the most vulnerable members of our community, we need your support more than ever. We’ve moved one of our favourite parts of the event, our auction, online. The online auction opens Tuesday, August 25 at 9 am, when we’ll start taking bids, and closes Monday, August 31 at 9 pm.
Downsview Park Community Stewardship – Invasive Species Busting
Help improve Downsview Park’s forests and meadows! Aug 11 at 6 pm. Free.
About this Event
In response to COVID-19 changes to the program have been made to keep participants and staff as safe as possible. Participants and staff will be in small groups, not exceeding provincial regulations. All participants must pre-register, everyone needs a ticket to attend. We will no longer have an indoor component. We recommend participants bring a mask, and a health check in will be needed before attending all programs. Additional information will be sent to all program participants. If you have any questions about our COVID-19 policies, please contact us.
We’ll be protecting Downsview Park’s beautiful forests and meadows from invasive species, creating homes for urban wildlife and working together to improve the Park. This program is a great way to get physical active and meet other people from your community.
August 11: Invasive Species Busting
This week we’ll be focused on stopping the advance of dog strangling vine (DSV) and Phragmites into the park’s natural areas. We’ll be preventing further invasive spread by removing DSV seed pods and spading phragmite roots.
What to Bring:
We’ll be working on and off pathways. We recommend long pants, closed toe shoes, sun protection and water. Gardening gloves are useful but not required. Downsview Park will be providing shovels and bags as needed.
We will be meeting outside the Discovery Centre (back of 70 Canuck Avenue, next to the greenhouses).
Please note: Pets are not permitted at this program. Service animals are always welcome.
