Toronto Japanese Film Festival

Canada’s largest showcase of contemporary Japanese film.

The Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre’s 9th annual TORONTO JAPANESE FILM FESTIVAL will be held online from Thursday, October 3 to Saturday, 22 and features 22 films using the SHIFT72 festival platform.  For the first time, TJFF is expanding its reach beyond Toronto to audiences across all of Canada, maintaining the festival’s sense of community while promoting friendship, understanding, and exchange between the Japanese and broader Canadian community.

TJFF showcases popular genres such as historical (samurai) jidaigeki, contemporary dramas, comedies and action, children’s, art-house and anime films.

This year’s TJFF takes place online, October 3-22, at Tickets are $10.

29th Annual Cabbagetown Short Film Festival

The Cabbagetown Short Film Festival, a local  tradition, is now Online for streaming across Canada September 9-11.  This juried showcase of 12 comedy and dramatic shorts was selected from hundreds submitted by filmmakers from around the world.  Watch the 2 hour program all at once, or take your time over 3 days. The Peanut Butter Falcon

The ICFF, presented by IC Savings, is bringing their popular Drive-In movie series to the City of Vaughan and Markham from August 31 to September 4 at the Chateau Le Jardin and Markham Fair Grounds. In partnership with CHIN Radio/TV and the Italian Embassy of Ottawa in Canada, ICFF will feature their ‘Focus on Italy’ program, and the winner of the 2020 Lavazza Drive-In Film Festivals People’s Choice Award.

On Friday, September 4, Lavazza Drive-In Nights Markham will feature a truly heartwarming tale, The Peanut Butter Falcon, the winner of both the SXSW Audience Award and the 2020 Lavazza Drive-In Film Festivals People’s Choice Award. Co-directed by Tyler Nilson and Michael Schwartz, the critically-acclaimed film is a modern-day Mark Twain adventure; the harrowing tale of a young man fighting the odds to achieve his dreams with the help of two unlikely friends.
