I was hard on local hiphoppers Pocket Dwellers’ live album for being stiflingly jazzy, but on their latest LP they vary their instruments and genre styles enough to keep it interesting while still forging a unified record. On several sharp head-nodders like Electrify, Stop and Photogenic, they outdo the Roots in terms of concept and song arrangement, and MC Nigel Williams is always speaking about something thoughtful or politicking on some very heavy issues (the song Poor White Girl, for instance). The track Want To Be kinda rubs me the wrong way, though – sounds like the missing link between Bloc Party, Nickelback and Limp Bizkit.
