DESCRIPTION:Join Rui Pimenta\, writer of texts about the exhibition\, for a walkthrough of Glorious Catastrophe by Toronto artist Gillian Iles. Pimenta will share his insights about the whole installation and specific artworks so visitors can engage more deeply with the metaphors and dualities presented in Iles’s work. \n– \nRui Pimenta has been connected to the arts for close to 30 years\, including a visual art practice from 2000-2014 during which time he exhibited his work extensively in Canada and Europe. Since then his creative focus has shifted towards programming and curation. In 2009 he founded Art Spin\, an arts organization now in its 16th year of presenting site-specific\, multidisciplinary programming in unique/alternative spaces and best known for its bicycle art tours. He was the Co-Director for the artist run Median Contemporary (2008-10) and has curated projects for Eastern Front Gallery\, Toronto Artists Project\, the Toronto Outdoor. Exhibition\, and the Government of Portugal. He has served on various arts council juries\, was a member of the City of Toronto’s Public Art Strategy Advisory Committee and The Bentway’s Advisory Committee. His curatorial aspirations are largely motivated by the enthusiastic pursuit of creating engaging and accessible ways to present art in public space.

Tickets are on sale now. \n \nJoin us on April 23 for our opening night screening of Antidiva: The Carole Pope Confessions followed by a discussion with special guests! \nIn Toronto’s vibrant music\, art and fashion scene of the 1970s and 1980s\, Carole Pope made her mark with the new wave band Rough Trade\, which produced bold\, boundary-breaking music delivered with a sexy punk edge. “High School Confidential\,” the band’s breakthrough hit\, did something not many had done before: it featured an openly queer performer fearlessly expressing lesbian desire on daytime radio. Now in her 70s\, Pope continues to channel her creativity into new forms. Her latest project is a musical that draws on her life and career with Rough Trade\, as well as the story of her beloved late brother Howard\, himself a celebrated musician and AIDS activist. Told with refreshing candour and drawn in part from Pope’s autobiography\, her story pulses with backstage seductions and on-stage swagger. DESCRIPTION:Frequent musical companions\, Steven Isserlis and Connie Shih are both internationally renowned soloists and chamber musicians. Their collaborations have thrilled audiences at Wigmore and Carnegie Halls\, amongst many others. \nMr. Isserlis’s reputation goes beyond performing: he has created texts for children’s works\, is a keen champion of new music as well as authentic performance\, and also has a career as a broadcaster and writer. In a beautifully crafted program that is reflective of his broad interests\, of particular note is the Ritournelle of the little-known Czech composer Vitezslava Kaprálová\, whose life and promising career was sadly cut short at the age of 25. It is paired here with what will undoubtedly be memorable performances of some of the gems of the cello/piano duo repertoire. \nCOSE pre-concert 6:30 pm\, Eric Guo\, pianoTop prize winner at the 2023 Chopin Competition on Period Instruments\, pianist Eric Guo has been invited to perform at some of today’s most prestigious international festivals\, including Chopin and his Europe (Poland)\, Duszniki (Poland)\, Nohant (France)\, Dvorak Prague (Czech)\, Bolzano Bozen (Italy)\, Frost Chopin (Miami)\, Rockport Chamber Music\, Paderewski Festival (Raleigh). \nEric was named one of CBC’s 30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30\, and recipient of Hnatyshyn Foundation Grant in Piano. His debut album\, released by the Chopin Institute\, received rave reviews from many musical journals\, including Gramophone (UK)\, and has been broadcasted on CBC and Radio-Canada.

DESCRIPTION:Sunface Collective\, with the support of EJ3Arts\, presents 365 Days/365 Plays by Suzan-Lori Parks as the University of Toronto’s Center for Drama\, Theatre & Performance Studies (CDTPS) 2026 Alumni Show. \nWritten as one play a day beginning in November 2002\, Parks’ work responds to the political and social realities of its time from war to systemic racism\, many of which continue to resonate today. This production reimagines selected plays in 2026\, exploring themes of collective grief\, absurdity\, anxiety\, and hope. \nRather than staging all 365 plays\, the creative team has curated 30 plays\, including Parks’ three “Constants\,” creating a non-linear\, maximalist performance that experiments with movement and sound. \nDirected by Teodora Djuric with dramaturgy by Aria Sharma\, this production is presented as part of the 2026 CDTPS Alumni Performance Project\, an initiative supporting recent alumni in developing and presenting new work.
