SUMMARY:Before Borders Gallery Show
DESCRIPTION:1 Week. 3 Strangers. 4 Provinces. 5\,000 Kilometres. \nWith no fixed itinerary\, Ryan Bolton and Yuma Dean Hester traveled north through Northern Alberta into the Northern Rockies. They then ventured into the Yukon and the Northwest Territories in pursuit of the Northern Lights. What began as a road trip became an exercise in listening\, seeing\, and being present. \nAlong the way\, the artists met with Elders\, Chiefs\, and storytellers whose histories are inseparable from the land. They were welcomed into conversations about memory\, responsibility\, and continuity — reminders that these landscapes are not empty expanses\, but living territories shaped by generations of knowledge and care. \nBeyond Borders reflects on what it means to cross provincial lines while recognizing deeper\, enduring boundaries that predate them. The work considers travel not as an escape\, but as an exchange — guided by those who have called this land home since time immemorial. \nIn support of DreamsTree Foundation.

By translating photography into visual sound waves captured through dance and DJ’ing\, the installation explores vibration as a shared language; one capable of bending perception and dissolving boundaries between what we hear and what we see. At its core\, Breaking Sound reflects on the idea that all sensation originates from the same material force: vibration itself. \nVisitors are invited to move through the space at their own pace\, whether in stillness or in motion\, and to return throughout the month to experience the work from new perspectives. \nExhibition Details\nDates: May 1 – May 31 \nViewing Hours: Monday – Friday: 8:30 AM – 6:00 PM Saturday: 9:30 AM – 9:00 PM Sunday: 9:30 AM – 6:00 PM \nAbout Trust The Process Press: \nTrust The Process Press is an independent print matter project and DJ duo founded by Ola Mazzuca and Rhandy Adolphe. SUMMARY:Sentient
DESCRIPTION:From April 23 to May 3\, the 2026 Hot Docs Festival will present documentaries from around the world to audiences in Toronto. 115 films from 51 countries will screen during this year’s Festival. Tickets are on sale now. \n \nFor years\, the ethics of animal testing have been a hugely contested topic. Is it just plain cruel or is it beneficial to humanity? A major focal point in this debate is the colossal number of monkeys used around the world in experiments. While some of the research conducted on animals has led to breakthroughs in medicine\, these results come at a high cost—not only for unwitting creatures but also for the researchers who facilitate the testing. Dr. Lisa Jones-Engel has long been one of those researchers\, and she is willing to speak out. After a lauded career working at the noted primate centre of the University of Washington\, she begins to rethink the work she has dedicated herself to. Through some shocking undercover footage taken inside laboratories\, Sentient offers up a difficult but pressing story\, questioning the morality of causing harm\, no matter the broader justification. SUMMARY:The World of Charcuterie by Peter Sanagan
DESCRIPTION:Masterclasses offer in-depth explorations of food topics\, presented by experts and accompanied by demonstrations and tastings. If you thought charcuterie just meant cold cuts\, you’re in for a delicious surprise. Join us for an exclusive Charcuterie Masterclass led by chef-turned-butcher Peter Sanagan\, owner and founder of Sanagan’s Meat Locker\, alongside Sanagan’s Executive Chef and Charcutier Scott Draper. You’ll learn about the Sanagan’s philosophy on sourcing and tradition\, while getting a behind-the-scenes glimpse of how Scott’s French-inspired techniques have grown Sanagan’s charcuterie program to over 35 house-made specialties. The talk will explore standards of the craft\, then cover everything from pâté en croûte and mousses to saucisson and black puddings. \nHistorically meat and offal were rare and expensive yet highly perishable ingredients\, so a sophisticated body of expertise developed to turn them into longer-lasting\, value-added products. These skillful preparations would transform humble cuts like liver and hearts into elegant delicacies worthy of the most refined table. In fact\, up to the Victorian era\, offal dishes were often considered more luxurious than regular cuts of meat due to freshness and skill required to prepare them well. \nAs meat became more affordable and widely available to the general public\, especially with the advent of refrigeration\, tastes and perceptions shifted and the popularity of these ingredients began to wane\, in part because of the amount of skill and labour they required. Technological advances saw the industrialization of some of these processes\, producing cheap and plentiful\, if gastronomically questionable\, products like hot dogs or bologna. Meanwhile\, in North America at least\, the production of high quality\, traditional charcuterie\, pâtés\, and the like became a vanishing skill. \nBut thanks to dedicated artisans like Peter Sanagan\, Scott Draper\, and other third-wave butchers like them across the country\, classic\, high-quality charcuterie has seen a remarkable renaissance in the last twenty years or so. Discover the stories and traditions behind the art and science of homemade charcuterie while you feast on an array of tasty\, locally-produced delicacies. You’ll develop a new appreciation for charcuterie that’s approachable\, creative\, delicious and diverse — and far beyond just cold-cuts! \n—–Sanagan’s Meat Locker is a renowned Toronto neighbourhood butcher shop with locations in Kensington Market\, Gerrard Street in Little India\, and most recently\, on Annette Street at Runnymede. After years of honing his culinary skills in esteemed Toronto kitchens such as Auberge du Pommier and Mistura\, Peter Sanagan’s passion for quality meat led him to open the Kensington shop in 2009. Drawing inspiration from his culinary experiences and time spent in Milan\, he sought to create a space that celebrated Ontario’s exceptional meats and poultry from small\, family farms and local producers. Peter’s commitment to quality and sustainability has made Sanagan’s Meat Locker a staple in Toronto’s food scene\, offering not only top-tier meats but also prepared foods\, artisanal grocery products\, and of course – housemade charcuterie. @sanagansmeatlocker \n—–The Depanneur is where Interesting Food Things happen. For more than a decade The Dep has been showcasing Toronto’s remarkable culinary diversity by hosting unique food events. @thedepanneur

SUMMARY:12 Litres 8800 Steps
DESCRIPTION:12 Litres 8800 Steps is an inter-disciplinary theatrical play in which we are invited into the world of people who have lost loved ones to addiction: One woman’s odyssey in coming to terms with the fragility of her mental health while witnessing the demise of her partner through addiction. A Horse appears and magic realism collides with the everyday reality of living with and loving an addict. Moving between fantasy and reality\, past and present and inspired by equine therapy\, the play explores the deepening bond between The Horse and The Woman: how they come together to negotiate their relationship\, re-discover play and how they eventually heal each other in the process. An 80 minute high octane rollercoaster with stunning visuals and an immersive soundscape\, 12 Litres 8800 Steps is for anyone looking for the silver lining in the dark.
