SUMMARY:The Human Edge: A conversation on AI and the future of work
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Re-Work  \nAI is moving faster than most people are ready for. \nThe productivity gains are real. But so are the consequences of that productivity. Since the industrial revolution\, we’ve used productivity as a measure of the value and worth of an individual\, it’s no wonder that the looming evolutionary threat of AI feels so scary for many modern workers. How do we respond to a future of work where productivity is achieved through agentic AI instead of human effort. \nAs a career and work wellbeing organization\, we have thoughts. \nIn this curated and honest conversation we’ll discuss where work is heading and what that means for the people doing it. And the ways we’ll need to shift our thinking around work and productivity. \nJoin us for a keynote and facilitated discussion exploring the intersection of AI\, automation\, and human well-being. We’ll get into the big picture and bring it back to what leaders and individuals can do to navigate the AI revolution in work. \nAbout Re-Work\nRe-Work is a Community First \nWe’re a professional (and personal) development community helping people redefine work\, ambition\, and success on their own terms. We want you to get to a healthier\, less stress-filled place with the thing we spend most of our lives doing: working. Move beyond burnout toward work that is meaningful and fulfilling as your fullest self. Through a proven process and framework\, we help you craft a more sustainable and values-aligned relationship with work. Through workshops\, training\, storytelling\, coaching and community spaces\, Re-Work invites you to explore a healthier\, more sustainable way of working and living. \nLet’s build a future of work that works for you.

SUMMARY:The Ultimate Dim Sum Experience at Wok Theory [OFFSITE]
DESCRIPTION:This event takes place at Wok Theory\, 530 Dundas St W\, Toronto. [MAP] Join restaurateur Edwin Lam and The Depanneur’s Len Senater for a remarkable 12+ course gastronomic foray into the world of dim sum. This event will also feature an exclusive dumpling making demonstration by Wok Theory Executive Dim Sum Chef Trinh Tieu. \nDim sum is a traditional Chinese culinary practice centred on small\, shareable dishes typically enjoyed with tea. Its roots trace back to southern China\, especially the Cantonese-speaking regions like Guangdong Province and the city of Guangzhou. The term dim sum literally means “touch the heart\,” reflecting the idea of light bites meant to satisfy rather than overwhelm. \nHistorically\, dim sum is closely tied to the culture of Yum Cha\, which translates to “drink tea.” This tradition began along ancient trade routes\, where travellers and merchants would stop at teahouses to rest. Initially\, tea was believed to aid digestion\, and food was not always served alongside it. Over time\, small snacks were introduced\, eventually evolving into the wide array of dishes now associated with dim sum. By the time of the Qing Dynasty (1644–1912)\, teahouses in southern China had become vibrant social hubs\, and dim sum had grown into a refined culinary art. \nA defining feature of dim sum is its variety. Dishes range from steamed dumplings like Har Gow and Siu Mai to buns such as Char Siu Bao\, as well as rice rolls\, spring rolls\, and desserts. Traditionally\, these items are served in small bamboo steamers or on small plates\, allowing diners to sample multiple flavours and textures in a single meal. \nTea plays an essential role in the tradition. Popular choices include Jasmine tea\, Pu-erh tea\, and Oolong tea. Etiquette is important: pouring tea for others before oneself is customary\, and a gentle tapping of fingers on the table is a traditional way to express thanks. \nToday\, dim sum has spread far beyond China\, becoming a global phenomenon in cities with large Chinese communities\, from Hong Kong to Toronto and San Francisco. While modern variations may include fusion elements or made-to-order service instead of carts\, the essence of dim sum—variety\, sharing\, and connection—remains unchanged.—– \nHar Gow – Supreme Shrimp DumplingsSiu Mai – Pork & Shrimp Dumplings w/ Fish RoeMo Gu Nam Gwa Gow – Mushrooms & Pumpkin DumplingsTea: Po Lei – aka Pu-erh\, a black tea common in dim sum restaurants \nChar Siu Bao – Steamed BBQ Pork Bun Fung Jow – Chicken Feet with House Special SauceGai Lo Mai Fan – Sticky Rice with Chicken and Egg Yolk in Lotus LeafTea: Heung Pin – fragrant jasmine green tea \nHeung So Wu Gok Gai – Crispy Taro Puffs with ChickenLap Cheung Jin Lo Bak Go – Pan Fried Turnip Cakes with Preserved SausageJyu Yuk Gau Choi Har Beng – Pan Fried Pork & Chive Shrimp PattiesTea: Tie Guan Yin – “Iron Goddess” oolong tea \nXO Jeung Chau Ngan Jam Fun – Hand-Made Stir-Fried Silver Pin Noodles with XO SauceHar Cheung Fun – Shrimp Rice RollsChui Pei Hung Mai Har Cheung – Crispy Shrimp Red Rice RollTea: Sau Mei – a leafy white Tea \nHak Gum Lau Sa Bao – Charcoal Molten Salted Egg Yolk Buns \n—– \nWok TheoryOpened in 2023\, Wok Theory is owned by a second-generation husband-wife duo who seized an opportunity to redefine the culinary scene in Toronto’s Chinatown. Balancing nostalgia and tradition with innovative modern touches\, they are aiming to become a culinary destination for those searching for authentic Chinese cuisine and an elevated dim sum experience. woktheory.com \n—–The Depanneur is where Interesting Food Things happen. SUMMARY:Primary Trust
DESCRIPTION:For years\, Kenneth has found solace in the mundane routine of his daily life—days spent working at a local bookshop\, evenings spent nursing a single mai tai at his favorite bar. \nBut when the shop closes and he suddenly finds himself without a job\, his carefully ordered world is upended. With nothing left to anchor him\, Kenneth must step beyond the quiet life he’s built and confront the fears\, dreams\, and unspoken grief that have kept him at a standstill. \nWith warmth and delicate humor\, Eboni Booth (Paris at the Atlantic Theater Company) crafts an affirming and tender portrait of a man standing at the brink of profound change. \nWinner of the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for Drama\, Primary Trust is a poignant meditation on connection and the courage it takes to transform your life.
