SUMMARY:Bees: A Story of Survival at ROM
DESCRIPTION:Bringing some buzz into your summer \nJourney into the world of bees in a stunning new immersive experience that brings together the beauty of art with the power of science. Created by the National Museums Liverpool in partnership with award-winning artist and sculptor\, Wolfgang Buttress\, the exhibition highlights 120-million years of bee adaptation and survival\, telling the epic tale of these incredible creatures and their relationship to us and the natural world. \nBased on science and full of imagination\, the experiential exhibition presents a fusion of nature\, art\, music\, and architecture that transports visitors into the world of bees – from the tiny\, fascinating anatomy of a single bee and the magical wonder of honey bee colonies to the important roles bees play in our lives and the everyday threats they face. \nThrough immersive environments\, art installations\, soundscapes\, and more\, learn about the life of bees and the world they inhabit. See an ancient\, fossilized bee encased in amber\, enter a stylized honeycomb\, take a moment to hear “like a honey bee”\, and experience changing patterns of light generated from the sounds of over 30\,000 bees. \nSmall but mighty\, bees are a critical ingredient of a healthy natural world but are under continued and increasing threat. Powerful in what they can provide\, and yet powerless to overcome the threats to their existence\, the exhibition takes a closer look at bees – including some local specimens from the collections at ROM – to help guide a better understanding of what we can do to help prevent bee species from disappearing forever. \nBees: A Story of Survival is an evocative\, engaging feast for the senses guaranteed to take the sting out of getting better acquainted with our buzz-worthy friends.

SUMMARY:Primary Trust
DESCRIPTION:For years\, Kenneth has found solace in the mundane routine of his daily life—days spent working at a local bookshop\, evenings spent nursing a single mai tai at his favorite bar. \nBut when the shop closes and he suddenly finds himself without a job\, his carefully ordered world is upended. With nothing left to anchor him\, Kenneth must step beyond the quiet life he’s built and confront the fears\, dreams\, and unspoken grief that have kept him at a standstill. \nWith warmth and delicate humor\, Eboni Booth (Paris at the Atlantic Theater Company) crafts an affirming and tender portrait of a man standing at the brink of profound change. \nWinner of the 2024 Pulitzer Prize for Drama\, Primary Trust is a poignant meditation on connection and the courage it takes to transform your life.

SUMMARY:International Ceramic Art Fair (ICAF) 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Gardiner Museum presents the return of the International Ceramic Art Fair (ICAF)\, its biennial celebration of innovation and contemporary directions in ceramics\, running May 28 to August 16\, 2026. \nThis year\, ICAF is expanded significantly from a 10-day event to a 12-week exhibition and public program\, positioning the fair at the forefront of how ceramics is evolving across art\, design\, and emerging technologies. \nAt the heart of this year’s edition is the theme “the city and the commons\,” presenting ceramics as both material and method for examining how we live together in rapidly changing cities. From architecture to infrastructure\, ceramics shelter\, connect\, and ground us\, offering new ways to think about belonging\, resilience\, and shared space. \nThe fair invites audiences to engage with urgent questions shaping contemporary life: How do we nurture communal relationships amidst dramatic change? How can material intelligence inform how we navigate cosmopolitan living? And how might emerging ceramic technologies reshape our sense of home\, security\, and belonging?

SUMMARY:Ella Gonzales & Derek Sullivan: 1\, 3\, 7
DESCRIPTION:Derek Sullivan and Ella Gonzales both previously occupied the gallery for three years\, twenty years apart\, and shared a studio building\, also\, years apart. These overlaps form a loose framework for the exhibition\, where familiarity with the site is built-up contextually and aesthetically through distance rather than simultaneity. \nDeveloped through ongoing correspondence\, the exhibition considers vessels\, containers\, and the spaces we move through. Sullivan’s drawings and Gonzales’ paintings approach the gallery as both structure and subject\, each work scaled and situated. Sullivan’s drawings extend his “press sheet” works – speculative book forms that hold images of vessels drawn from his home – while Gonzales’ paintings take the proportions of the gallery as a guiding structure\, building layered compositions from remembered interiors. \nAcross both practices\, the gallery becomes a point of orientation. Works are scaled\, placed\, and shaped in direct relation to its architecture\, acting as anchors within the space while remaining open to shifts in perception\, and relation. \nMoving between diagram and intuition\, function and image\, the works hold forms in states of transition – where meaning is not fixed\, but continually shaped by memory\, use\, and time.

SUMMARY:Tiger Bride
DESCRIPTION:A fairy tale with teeth. \nA rock-fueled\, punk-infused reimagining of Angela Carter’s The Tiger’s Bride\, this electrifying song cycle turns Beauty and the Beast inside out. Here\, the Beast doesn’t become a man—instead\, the Girl becomes something wilder. Blurring the lines between girl and woman\, human and animal\, power and submission\, Tiger Bride is a raw\, gothic horror pulsing with sex\, fury\, and transformation. Part rock concert\, part cabaret\, part theatre\, this is no tidy fairy tale—it’s an untamed\, unapologetic roar.

SUMMARY:Next To Normal
DESCRIPTION:Bowtie Productions is proud to announce their new production of Next To Normal featuring an all-Canadian cast will take place May 30-June 6\, 2026 at Native Earth’s Aki Studio in Toronto. With book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt\, this winner of three 2009 Tony Awards\, and the 2010 Pulitzer Prize\, is an electrifying and poignant depiction of a family in crisis trying to overcome the past. \nDirected by Anthony Goncharov\, Next To Normal will star April Rebecca as Diana\, Taylor Long as Dan\, Aveleigh Keller as Natalie\, Christopher Lyon as Gabe\, Samel Sunil as Henry\, and Mich Anger as Dr Madden/Dr Fine. They’re the perfect suburban family – Dad’s an architect\, brother and sister are acing their classes\, and Mom’s keeping them all together. SUMMARY:Anthems to Colour
DESCRIPTION:Anthems to Colour \nBy Liz West \nPresented by Luminato Festival \nSupported by Brookfield Properties \n \nStep into Anthems to Colour\, an installation that invites you to see Toronto in a brand-new light. \nAcross three Brookfield Properties locations in downtown Toronto\, British artist Liz West creates sculptural works using coloured acrylic\, mirrored surfaces\, and refracted light. Designed to respond to the movement of the sun\, the installations shift throughout the day: grids of coloured panels glow against glass facades\, mirrored elements reflect and multiply surrounding architecture\, and translucent walls scatter prismatic colour into the space around them. \nThese are not static sculptures but responsive environments—works that use daylight as a material. As the light changes\, familiar buildings and public spaces are transformed\, turning marble\, glass\, and steel into luminous\, layered\, and unexpectedly playful experiences. \nMarking West’s Toronto premiere\, Anthems to Colour presents three new site-specific commissions created especially for Luminato 2026.

SUMMARY:Luminato Festival
DESCRIPTION:Known for its bold curation of Toronto’s people\, places\, and stories\, this iconic summer festival will once again transform the city’s identity through the aptly titled theme of PLAY. This year’s theme asks us to consider how a festival can truly PLAY its city. Encounter experiences that evoke child’s play using imagination and whimsy; stories that spotlight justice and reconciliation by boldly addressing equal play; and explore the uncertainty of shifting dynamics\, the need to win and the imbalance of power play. This year’s programme spans a broad array of conversations designed to inspire\, challenge and uplift.

SUMMARY:Masterclass
DESCRIPTION:Masterclass \nBy Brokentalkers \nPresented by Luminato Festival \nSupported by Culture Ireland \n \nWhat’s the key to creating great art? When a playwright is asked\, absurdity ensues. \nCreated by Dublin-based company Brokentalkers with performer Adrienne Truscott\, the award-winning Masterclass turns the art world on its head in a sharp\, hilarious satire that takes aim at masculinity\, sexism\, and power in the cultural canon. \nFramed as a live artist interview\, the show introduces a swaggering\, self-proclaimed male genius playwright (Truscott) opposite a fawning\, significant host (Feidlim Cannon). As the conversation unfolds\, bravado\, ego\, and artistic myth-making collide — exposing the stories we’ve been told about “greatness\,” and who has historically been allowed to claim it. \nBlending razor-sharp comedy with theatrical mischief\, Masterclass shifts from playful parody to something more revealing\, laying bare the structures of privilege and power that shape the art we celebrate. Funny\, biting\, and unexpectedly disarming. It asks who gets to be called a genius — and at whose expense. \nContent warning: contains strong language and adult themes.
