SUMMARY:The Porch :itâ kâ-wasêtêki tâpwêwin
DESCRIPTION:Small but Mighty Productions presentsThe Porch :itâ kâ-wasêtêki tâpwêwin(Where Truth is Brought Into the Light)Written by Danik McAfee \nOne Muskoka cottage.A yearly tradition of Friendsgiving and a whole lot left unsaid. \nBetween the cocktails\, questionable decisions\, old flames\, new lovers\, and one increasingly chaotic evening\, The Porch is a dark comedy mystery about chosen family and the ridiculous lengths we go to keep the peace. \nSet against a celebration built around gratitude\, the play asks what happens when the stories holding us together begin to crack. \nThrough an Indigenous lens\, The Porch draws a parallel between the sanitized history of Thanksgiving and the histories we rewrite within our own families. \nBecause eventually\, the drinks run out\, \nthe party ends and everything buried finds its way into the light. \nSHOWSPREVIEW- Tuesday October 20th @ 7:30PMWednesday October 21 @ 7:30PMThursday October 22nd @ 7:30pmFriday October 23rd @ 7:30pmSaturday October 24th @ 1:30pm (Talk back post show)Saturday October 24th @ 7:30pmSunday October 25th @ 1:30pmSunday October 25th @ 7:30pm \nCASTJulian Lam\, Connor Mccalden\, Evie Murphy-King\, Miss Niki Nikita\, Morgan O’Grady\, Matt Scerri\, Jamie Rice\, Caitlin Turner \nCREATIVE TEAMDirector: Danik McAfeeProducers: Melly Magrath & Caitlin TurnerStage Manager/Lighting Designer: Clair Mooney

SUMMARY:Overture: new work by Stev'nn Hall\, Reception Sat Oct 24\, 12-3 pm
DESCRIPTION:Reception Sat Oct 24\, 12-3 pm \nOctober 22 – Nov 5\, 2026 \nOverture is a series of mixed-media landscapes and floral images exploring transformation\, mystery\, and the changing character of the natural world. Towering clouds\, luminous water lilies\, and white peonies set against deep darkness become different expressions of related ideas: beauty and vulnerability\, growth and decay\, what is revealed and what remains hidden. The works are based on recognizable places and forms\, while also suggesting the immense forces of weather\, water\, light\, and time. The series is rooted in the rural landscapes of my childhood and connected to the sublime tradition of nineteenth-century landscape painting\, in which light\, weather\, water\, and sky could inspire awe. I bring that tradition into the present through a contemporary process that combines photography with oil paint\, ink\, pastel\, and matte mediums on birch panels. Photographic detail meets visible brushwork\, drips\, and splatters\, creating a tension between what has been documented and what has been transformed. The title Overture suggests the opening of a larger experience. These works invite viewers into a world of shifting light\, dark water\, gathering clouds\, and fading flowers – a world shaped by beauty\, uncertainty\, and continual change.

SUMMARY:Sandra Meigs: Beasts\, Clocks and Popeye
DESCRIPTION:Sandra Meigs has sustained her painting practice for over 40 years. Through three interconnected bodies of work – Beasts\, Clocks and Popeye – she reflects on a lifetime of devotion to painting and lingers on the questions that accompany such a sustained practice. All these works unite by a meditation on time: time measured\, time passing\, time suspended\, and time held. Drawing on vintage clocks\, toy figurines from the 1930-50’s\, and her beloved muse\, Popeye\, Sandra creates images that exist outside of standard chronology. \nThese familiar forms: painted clocks with emphasized bodies and hands\, creatures butted up\, biting\, and caressing one another\, and the infamous Popeye\, all invite an awareness of transience – the way images\, memories\, and experiences intertwine\, endure and dissolve\, over and over and over again.

SUMMARY:Black Zombie
DESCRIPTION:George A. Romero’s iconic Night of the Living Dead spearheaded an entire genre that has spawned hundreds of films and TV shows centred around flesh-eating monsters. Before their cinematic deviation\, the origins of the reanimated dead can be traced back to 17th-century colonial Caribbean sugarcane fields and are connected to Vodou\, a religion in which enslaved West Africans held the belief that death would free them to return to their homeland for their afterlife. If a landowner turned them into a zombie\, however\, their homeward passage would be interrupted and they would labour in plantations forevermore. Director Maya Annik Bedward explores the damaging ongoing appropriation of the undead figure in popular culture to unpack the mythology and reclaim the zombie’s power as a symbol of survival and resilience. Extensive visual research and interviews with filmmakers\, vodou practitioners and anthropologists juxtapose horror-film history with Haitian culture to create a pathway to understand the roots of the zombie in slavery and the spiritual significance of a lost body deprived of its soul. Alexander Rogalski\, Hot Docs \nIn English\, French and Haitian\, with English subtitles. \nTICKETS (+HST) \nGeneral: $15 \nMembers: $10\, $8\, FREE
