SUMMARY:International Ceramic Art Fair (ICAF) 2026
DESCRIPTION:The Gardiner Museum presents the return of the International Ceramic Art Fair (ICAF)\, its biennial celebration of innovation and contemporary directions in ceramics\, running May 28 to August 16\, 2026. \nThis year\, ICAF is expanded significantly from a 10-day event to a 12-week exhibition and public program\, positioning the fair at the forefront of how ceramics is evolving across art\, design\, and emerging technologies. \nAt the heart of this year’s edition is the theme “the city and the commons\,” presenting ceramics as both material and method for examining how we live together in rapidly changing cities. From architecture to infrastructure\, ceramics shelter\, connect\, and ground us\, offering new ways to think about belonging\, resilience\, and shared space. \nThe fair invites audiences to engage with urgent questions shaping contemporary life: How do we nurture communal relationships amidst dramatic change? How can material intelligence inform how we navigate cosmopolitan living? And how might emerging ceramic technologies reshape our sense of home\, security\, and belonging?

SUMMARY:Ella Gonzales & Derek Sullivan: 1\, 3\, 7
DESCRIPTION:Derek Sullivan and Ella Gonzales both previously occupied the gallery for three years\, twenty years apart\, and shared a studio building\, also\, years apart. These overlaps form a loose framework for the exhibition\, where familiarity with the site is built-up contextually and aesthetically through distance rather than simultaneity. \nDeveloped through ongoing correspondence\, the exhibition considers vessels\, containers\, and the spaces we move through. Sullivan’s drawings and Gonzales’ paintings approach the gallery as both structure and subject\, each work scaled and situated. Sullivan’s drawings extend his “press sheet” works – speculative book forms that hold images of vessels drawn from his home – while Gonzales’ paintings take the proportions of the gallery as a guiding structure\, building layered compositions from remembered interiors. \nAcross both practices\, the gallery becomes a point of orientation. Works are scaled\, placed\, and shaped in direct relation to its architecture\, acting as anchors within the space while remaining open to shifts in perception\, and relation. \nMoving between diagram and intuition\, function and image\, the works hold forms in states of transition – where meaning is not fixed\, but continually shaped by memory\, use\, and time.

SUMMARY:Gallery Tour: Allegra Charleston on Glorious Catastrophe
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a delightfully irreverent Exhibition Walkthrough of Glorious Catastrophe | Gillian Iles with Susie Burpee’s charmingly eccentric persona\, Allegra Charleston\, who dares to laugh in the face of convention. \nCharleston’s art commentary challenges the art world’s seriousness with sharp wit\, playful antics\, and a flair for the absurd. Don’t miss the chance to tour this exhibition with an “art critic” who believes in approaching art with a good\, old-fashioned belly laugh. \n– \nTraversing both dance and theatre\, Susie Burpee is a multi-faceted artist and award-winning performer based in Toronto/Tkaronto. Known for her character-driven choreographic works\, Susie has received Dora Mavor Moore Awards for Outstanding Choreography and Performance\, and she is a recipient of the K.M. Hunter Artist Award for Dance. \nSusie studied Character and Bouffon with Philippe Gaulier\, where her alter ego and lifelong companion Allegra Charleston was born. Susie and Allegra have been revelling in the Canadian art world for many years\, delivering thought-provoking performances in service of levity\, gravity and empathy. \nSusie holds an MA in Drama\, Theatre\, and Performance Studies from the The University of Toronto and teaches regularly in post-secondary dance programs. She is now Executive Director of Balancing Act\, a national initiative to support parents and caregivers in the performing arts. Susie is a mother\, and her work in the arts is wholly informed by maternity and care-centred practices.

SUMMARY:Angle Mort (Blindside)
DESCRIPTION:Diagnosed with a malignant retinal tumor at the age of two\, Stéphanie Morin-Robert had to have her left eye removed and now lives with an ocular prosthesis. In a candid\, energetic\, and humorous autobiographical account\, she recounts her childhood in Northern Ontario\, the advantages and challenges of her condition both within her family and at school\, and how\, during a ball game in which her glass eye was dislodged from its socket\, she eventually managed to overcome her fear of being different. \nA show about resilience and the joy of living. After performing Blindside around the world for nearly a decade\, Stéphanie Morin-Robert produced a French version\, Angle Mort. Not only does she continue to fully embrace her disability\, but she also happily reclaims her Francophone roots and her identity. \nALL PERFORMANCES ARE ENGLISH SURTITLED. YOU ALSO HAVE THE OPTION TO TRY ON OUR AUGMENTED REALITY GLASSES FOR A MORE IMMERSIVE SURTITLING EXPERIENCE. TOGGLE BETWEEN ENGLISH OR FRENCH. YOUR PREFERENCE! OF COURSE\, IT’S FREE OF CHARGE.

SUMMARY:Luka Kuplowsky & Band | HOLY OAK FAMILY DJ
DESCRIPTION:INSTITUT 004\nThursday\, May 28 | 8 PM until late | 620 Spadina Ave (basement)\nBohdan Ihor Antonych wrote in a trance. So did Luka Kuplowsky. Tonight\, that trance becomes a full band performance — jazz\, synthesizer\, drum machine\, and cosmic balladry in the basement. Stay late: Holy Oak Family DJ takes it to 2AM. \nPWYC. RSVP so we know who to expect. \nSchedule\n8:00 PM | EVAN J. CARTWRIGHT RSVP \n8:30 PM | NORIKO YAMAMOTO \n8:45 PM | LUKA KUPLOWSKY & BAND \n10:00 PM | HOLY OAK FAMILY DJ RSVP \nConcert | Luka Kuplowsky & Band\nA full band celebration of Luka Kuplowsky’s new album The Grass Grows\, Antonych Grows — Ukrainian orphic poetry meets jazz\, new age\, and cosmic balladry. \nLUKA KUPLOWSKY‘s latest release adapts the poetry of orphic Ukrainian poet Bohdan Ihor Antonych (1909–1937) to song. Written in a self-described trance state over six days\, the record moves from demo drum machines and synthesizer into a wide scope of jazz\, new age\, and cosmic balladry. Tonight he performs it with a full band featuring Thom Gill\, Joseph Shabason\, Evan Cartwright\, Josh Cole\, Felicity Williams\, and Michael Davidson. \nEVAN J. CARTWRIGHT is a singular songwriter combining existential lyrics with masterful musicianship. Steeped in jazz melodicism\, his trumpet-like phrasing and contemporary composition present an eclectic art song. \nNORIKO YAMAMOTO is a mime\, dancer\, choreographer\, and visual artist. Trained in ballet\, modern\, and jazz dance in Japan and New York\, and in mime under renowned artist Mamako Yoneyama\, Noriko will perform a solo piece as well as collaborate with Luka Kuplowsky and the band. \nVintage Vinyl | Holy Oak Family DJ\nThe band sets down their instruments. The records come out. Classic cuts from the singer-songwriters that inspired this scene\, with video projections of archival filmmaking from Luka Kuplowsky. \nHOLY OAK FAMILY DJ is Thom Gill and Luka Kuplowsky.
