by Linda Griffiths (Factory Theatre). An ex-suffragette runs a secretarial school in 1885 England. Previews Oct 20-22, opens Oct 23 and runs to Nov 8, Tue-Sat 8 pm, Sun 2 pm. $35, preview $25.
Griffithss play set at an all-female secretarial school in 1880s England is full of intriguing ideas about womens independence, marriage and economic autonomy. This excellent revival features some fine performances, especially by Aviva Armour-Ostroff, Juno Rinaldi and Leah Doz as three sisters who are left nearly destitute after their fathers death. Director Jennifer Brewin captures the works lively spirit and intelligence, although the nearly non-existent set is bad for acoustics.
