Loosely based on the 1997 animated film, this touring Broadway musical deals with the legend of the Grand Duchess Anastasia, thought to be the only survivor of the royal Romanov family after the Russian Revolution. The story is overly complicated and derivative, and theres little complexity in the shows politics. But the production is handsome and efficient, the lyrics and score evoking old world nostalgia and the performances full of life and verve.
