The easiest way to throw together an overview of the recordings country roots rebel Emmylou Harris cut for Reprise between 75 and 90 is to compile her single releases, and that’s essentially what you get with Anthology. Consequently, the resulting two-CD set appears to be tailor-made for pop country fans who were busy buying Reba records during the 80s. It’s doubtful the alt-country crowd will have much interest in the lame covers of Mister Sandman and To Know Him Is To Love Him included at the expense of Harris’s beautiful bluegrass reveries from her classic Angel Band album, which has been entirely overlooked. A better bet for new Emmylou converts is the companion Gram Parsons Anthology — Sacred Hearts & Fallen Angels.
