by Kat Sandler (Factory Theatre). A white playwright uses the police shooting of an unarmed Black man as inspiration to write a hit play that draws interest for a movie deal. Previews from Jan 27 (Sat, Tue-Wed 8 pm, Sun 7 pm), opens Feb 1 and runs to Feb 24 (extended from Feb 18), Tue-Sat 8 pm, Sun 2 pm. $30-$50, preview $20.
Sandlers explosive new play takes current issues like police violence against Black men, voice appropriation, mental illness and white male privilege and combines them to make a dramatically charged and very funny show. Shes always been brilliant in setting up tense situations with characters who want something specific, and the actors bite into their roles, especially Jeff Lillico as a smug writer, Sebastien Heins as a pop-star actor and Karen Robinson as the concerned mother of a guilt-ridden cop.
