by Girish Karnad (Neeraja Ramjee). An Indian woman gets flak from her community for a book she wrote in English that succeeds internationally. Opens Aug 11 and runs to Aug 20, Fri-Sat 8 pm, Sun Aug 13 at 7 pm, mat Sat-Sun 2 pm. $25, adv $20.
This short, solo literary mystery about a best-selling author (Neeraja Ramjee) in India who gets confronted by her video doppelganger contains some dramatic twists, but falters due to over-reliance on tricky video elements. The bulk of the show is Ramjee being interrogated by her on-screen double, which is achieved through pre-recorded video. Director Clinton Walker could have made these static exchanges more dynamic, but most distracting are timing issues between Ramjees live and pre-recorded performances.
