After a three-year hiatus, Beatbox Canada will crown a champion for the first time since 2019 in Toronto.

The 2023 Canadian Beatbox Championships will be an all ages event at the Rec Room on March 11 from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Beatboxers from across five different provinces are headed to Toronto to battle for the title.

Of the performers, three are from the Greater Toronto Area, including Emmanuel Dave Nicolas from Brampton, Kenny Galang from Toronto and Cansun Sevinc from Toronto.

The lineup includes six first-time competitors going up against the defending champ, Vino Cuenca from Vancouver.

“Like much of the music industry, the art of beatboxing pivoted quickly to online battles and showcases, where the artists could connect and master their skill,” Beatbox Canada’s news release reads. “With the tournament happening in person for the first time in three years, the talent and the 100 per cent vocal percussion skillset is set to impress anyone who attends in person.”

The evening will also consist of four beatbox tag teams and four loop station artists battling for a champion title.

Live looping is the recording and playback of a piece of music in real-time.
